Alecto takes Joshua's face in his, thumbs swiping away his tears, leaning in to kiss him, slowly and kindly on the lips. There's no urgency here, just simple and uncomplicated love. The patient, true kind, that kind that speaks to commitment and work and compromise.
"Shh," he soothes, "I understand." He murmurs the rest of his words against the part of Joshua's mouth, this promise meant just for the two of them. "It's why I've decided to gift you my coat." It's a symbolic gesture, rooted in old ocean sorcery. It's weighty, not a promise made lightly as it meant a certain sacrifice and more importantly, a trust. "And all I ask is that you allow me to return to the waters that birthed me every full moon. The rest of the time, I'm yours. All yours. Only yours."
He pulls back slightly now, smiling down at their children now both dozing off, curled around each other.
"There's just one more thing I need from you, darling," he says, his own eyes just a little damp now. "The ring you married me with. May I have it back?"
